Back to School

153 Words By Lori on Feb 11, 2008

I’ve often thought about going back to school.  It’s something that lingers on my mind nonstop but with 3 kids and no money, it’s hard to follow through with it.  The money issue could easily be solved with student loans but I still have 3 kids and a husband to think about.

With all the courses online, I could go that route.  I know people who have done it and I think that would be a better option for my situation.  Have any of you gone back to school online?  If so, what were the pros and cons?  I’d love to hear because I may just do this someday!  Having an education is essential for obvious reasons but I want something to fall back on just in case I were to be a situation where my husband is no longer here.

Again, if you do this, please let me know how it’s going for you.

  1. I’m so with you on this one. I’m crossing my fingers that nothing happens to my dh. I’m hoping to get life insurance on both of us soon…enough so that either of us could be at home with the kids and continue their homeschooling. I’m thinking of studying for and testing for credit for college classes when my oldest is ready for the same classes.

  2. My husband took some online courses for his Degree and they were EXTREMELY difficult. It took about 75% more time then an in person class would. More writing. More assigments. More posting. BUT he would do it again in a heartbeat because he got to spend more time at home with us. When the kids needed him (or myself for that matter) he would take 5 minutes and take some time for us. So it was much better then him being gone from 7-3 and then from 4-9 every day (like he had been doing).

Just make sure you go with a known school that has online courses. Don’t take the cheap way out cuzz you might get burned.

And the flip side of the coin… I too have thought about going back to school at some point. But right now I Homeschool the kids and don’t really know what I would go back for. I have about 12 more years of homeschooling to do so I have a while to think on it. Luckily DH has good life insurance so if it ever happens (God forbid) I will be taken care of for a little while.
